Background
Rise Asset Development was initially funded by Sandra Rotman through a Rise pilot program, which helped entrepreneurs with mental health and addiction challenges explore self-employment.
The pilot program provided financial assistance and support, allowing participants to build successful small businesses.
In 2009, the pilot program helped a small group of emerging entrepreneurs access investment capital, business mentoring, and support.
This proved that Rise's financial assistance and support could help grow small businesses and improve the prospects of a marginalized community.
The program allowed certain clients to graduate from the Ontario Disability Support Program and become more self-sufficient.
A unique perspective: Turnkey Asset Management Program
Rise partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Youth Services in 2012 to create a program targeting youth living with mental health and addiction challenges.
The goal of this initiative was to work with fifty young entrepreneurs between the ages of 16 and 29 over three years.
Rise delivered the program and provided microfinancing, while Ontario financed the business training for these young entrepreneurs.
