About Norisbank

The roots of Norisbank date back to 1954 when Quelle, a mail-order company, started offering financing for its products through Noris Kaufhilfe.

Norisbank was officially founded on June 4, 1965, as Noris Kreditbank GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. Its name is derived from the nymph Noris, an allegorical name for the city of Nuremberg.

The bank's initial goal was to expand the financing of Quelle's products and those of its subsidiaries in the mail-order and retail sectors.

In 1969, Noris Kaufhilfe was renamed Noris Bank GmbH, and its product range was expanded to include banking services like giro and savings accounts.

By 1984, Norisbank had merged with the Verbraucherbank AG from Hamburg, which had introduced the first customer self-service system in Germany in 1975.

The merger brought with it the Verbraucherbank's online banking system, which was launched in 1980 and became the first of its kind in Germany.

In 1999, Norisbank integrated the Hypo Service-Bank (HSB), founded in 1991, into its operations.

As a result of the merger, Norisbank became the first bank to offer online credit with immediate approval in 2000.

The bank's parent company, Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank, initially considered integrating Norisbank into its own network of branches but ultimately decided to sell it in 2002.

In 2003, the DZ Bank acquired Norisbank AG for €180 million, but only held onto it for three years before selling it to the Deutsche Bank in 2006 for €420 million.
