BCBS transportation options can be a bit overwhelming, but let's break it down. Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) offers a variety of transportation services to help members get to and from medical appointments.

One of the most common transportation options is BCBS's network of independent transportation providers. These providers offer door-to-door service and can accommodate members with special needs.

BCBS also offers a transportation benefit that allows members to use their own vehicles for transportation. This benefit is available to members who are unable to use public transportation due to a disability or other mobility issue.

Non-medical rides are not covered by BCBS transportation, such as going shopping or visiting a friend.

If you need to see a provider outside of the network, you'll need special authorization from BCCHP before it's covered.

Rides to see a provider more than 65 miles away also require special authorization from BCCHP.

Here are some examples of non-covered rides:

  • Going shopping
  • Visiting a friend
  • Seeing a provider outside the network (without authorization)
  • Seeing a provider more than 65 miles away (without authorization)
