Why Does Nebraska Have No 5g?

There are a few reasons why Nebraska may not have 5G service yet. One possibility is that the state simply doesn't have enough cell towers to support the technology. 5G service requires a denser network of cell towers than 4G, so service providers may not have invested in the infrastructure necessary to offer 5G in Nebraska yet. What is 5G?

5G is the next generation of mobile phone networks. It is designed to deliver higher speeds and lower latency than current 4G networks. 5G technology is still in development, and is expected to be commercially available in 2020.

5G will enable a range of new applications and services, including:

The higher speeds and lower latency of 5G will be made possible by a number of new technologies, including:

• More advanced modem technologies, such as 8-point downlink carrier aggregation

• Beamforming – a technology that uses multiple antennas to focus the signal on the user’s device

• Higher-frequency spectra, such as millimetre wave (mmWave)

• Small cells – low-power wireless access points that can be used indoors and in urban areas to improve coverage

The deployment of 5G networks is expected to be a multi-stage process, with initial deployments in 2019-2020 using sub-6 GHz spectrum, followed by deployments using mmWave spectrum in 2020 and beyond.

The infrastructure requirements for 5G are the same as those for 4G, with the addition of new spectrum requirements and higher capacity backhaul requirements.

5G will require new spectrum in the millimeter wave (mmWave) range, which is currently being allocated by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). These frequencies are higher than those currently used for mobile networks, and will require new antenna technology.

5G will also require higher capacity backhaul than 4G. This can be provided by fiber optic cable, microwave, or millimeter wave wireless.
