He also continued to take on Surveying commissions.

In 1753, the Governor of Virginia, Robert Dinwiddie, commissioned George Washington to deliver a message to the French commander in the Ohio Valley, warning him to stop encroaching on British territory. The French did not heed Washington's warning, and instead began to fortify their position in the area. This led to the outbreak of the French and Indian War in 1754.
