Bridgewater is a village in Sumter County, Florida, United States. The population was 411 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Villages retirement community.

Bridgewater was founded in 1975. It was originally developed as a retirement community for active adults 55 and over. The community now has a mix of ages, with many families relocating from other parts of Florida and the United States.

Bridgewater is located in north-central Sumter County, south of The Villages. It is bordered to the north by the city of Fruitland Park and to the south by the unincorporated community of Oxford.

The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.86.
