What to Bag for Termite Fumigation?

When you're getting ready for a termite fumigation, there are a few things you need to remember to pack. First, make sure you have plenty of plastic sheeting to cover all of your furniture. You'll also need to tape all of the seams of the plastic sheeting to create a tight seal. This will prevent the fumigant from escaping and will help protect your belongings from the chemicals.

Next, you'll need to empty out all of the food from your pantry and cupboards. Any food that is left behind will be contaminated by the chemicals and should not be consumed. Make sure to also remove any dishes, silverware, or other utensils from these areas. Once everything is cleared out, you'll need to wash all of the surfaces with soap and water to remove any residue.

Finally, you'll need to pack up any pets or plants that you have in your home. Pets should be taken to a friend or family member's house for the duration of the fumigation. Plants should be watered well and then placed in a sealed garbage bag. Once everything is packed up, you're ready for the fumigation to begin.

A typical fumigation will require four to six exclusion bags per 1,000 sq. ft. of structure being fumigated. So, for a 2,000 sq. ft. house, you would need eight to twelve exclusion bags.

After termite fumigation is complete, the bags should be removed from the premises immediately. All people and animals should leave the area during the fumigation process and not return until the bags are gone.

When having your home tented for termites, there are some items you need to bag and some you don't. items that need to be in sealed plastic bags include: all food items including any in the pantry, all medications, any open containers of liquids such as soap, shampoo, and conditioner, as well as any containers with food that is not sealed such as an open box of cereal, any unsealed containers of pet food, and any dirty items such as clothing or bedding that needs to be laundered. Items that don't need to be in sealed plastic bags include: most general household items such as dishes, cups, books, and magazines, as well as any electronics that will be turned off and unplugged during the fumigation.
