Career

Terri Vaughan's career is a testament to her dedication and expertise in the field of insurance. She began her academic journey as an adjunct assistant professor of insurance at Temple University from January 1983 to December 1985.

Vaughan's academic pursuits continued at Baruch College, where she was an assistant professor of economics and finance from January 1986 to May 1987. She then transitioned to a consultant role at the actuarial firm Tillinghast, working in its risk management and casualty division from May 1987 to July 1988.

As the director of The Insurance Center at Drake University from August 1988 to July 1994, Vaughan held a dual role as an assistant professor and chair of the insurance department from 1990 to 1994. She was appointed Insurance Commissioner of the state of Iowa in August 1994, a position she held for 10 years, making her Iowa's longest-serving insurance commissioner.

Recognition

Terri Vaughan received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa in 1996.

A chance meeting at a Washington DC airport last April led to our introduction of Terri Vaughan, and we're thrilled to have her on board. She's a highly respected professional with a strong network of connections in the insurance industry.

Terri's academic background is impressive, with a Ph.D in risk and insurance from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.B.A in insurance and economics from the University of Iowa. Her dad, the late Emmett Vaughan, was a professor of insurance at Iowa for 41 years and well-known nationally and internationally.

Terri's family is also involved in the insurance industry, with her husband Bob Carber being a retired insurance agent. Their two sons, Kevin and Tommy, are equally interested in risk management, with Kevin even explaining AIG's troubles at age 12!
