Kessel Stelling will transition to a new role as executive chairman, a position he will hold until January 1, 2023, before continuing in an advisory role until January 1, 2025. He has led Synovus through some of the most challenging times in the company's history.

Blair's leadership strengths, innovative mindset, and commitment to Synovus' people-first culture and communities make him the right leader for the company at the right time, according to Stelling.

UGA Fall Commencement Address

Regent Kessel D. Stelling Jr. will deliver the fall undergraduate Commencement address at the University of Georgia on December 13.

The ceremony will take place in Stegeman Coliseum and begin at 9:30 a.m. with the graduate ceremony following at 2:30 p.m.

President Jere W. Morehead praises Regent Stelling as an exemplary business leader and inspiring public servant.

He notes that Stelling's sound judgment helped preserve Georgia's banking industry during the Great Recession.

Regent Stelling has been a member of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents since 2008, representing Georgia's 6th Congressional District.

He served as chair of the company Synovus in 2012 and was named one of American Banker's most reputable banks for four consecutive years under his leadership.

Stelling received a bachelor's degree in banking and finance from UGA and completed the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University.
