SEB Banka has a rich history that spans over two decades. In 1996, the bank's shares were listed on the Riga Stock Exchange and were acquired by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Swedfund International AB.

The bank's journey took a significant turn in 1998 during the Russian economic crisis, when it started cooperating with Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken. SEB became a shareholder on January 5, 1999, and by 2000, it had become the majority shareholder.

SEB Banka's growth was rapid, and by 2001, it had launched a bid to increase its share to 98%. This move led to Unibanka stopping its listing on the Riga Stock Exchange in February 2001.

SEB Banka's headquarters have undergone significant changes over the years. Initially, they were located in Pils iela 23 along the Doma Square in Vecrīga. In 2004, the bank moved to a new building, the SEB finanšu centrs, located in Valdlauči, Ķekava Parish, Ķekava Municipality, just outside the borders of Riga.

In 2004, SEB Banka became the sole shareholder, marking a significant milestone in its history. The bank's logo and branding also underwent changes, with the introduction of the 'Uni-' prefix for its branches and a stylized Möbius strip logo.
