Henderson Castle Update
The Henderson Castle is a local bed and breakfast and community center that's been a staple in the area for years. The Livingstone-McNelis family has been working tirelessly to keep it open, but they need your help.
Peter and Laura Livingstone-McNelis have raised half of the $100,000 needed to keep the castle open after January 1st. They've received two significant donations, as well as nearly a dozen smaller gifts from the community.

The castle has been a community hub, hosting fundraisers, charity auctions, and raffles, and offering free or discounted rooms and tours. In fact, the Livingstone-McNelises have given at least $120,000 to the community since they took over the castle.
Fay Smith, an 82-year-old voice teacher, donated to the cause because she trusts the Livingstone-McNelis family and believes in their mission. She's not rich, living off of Social Security and a small pension, but she felt it was worth taking a financial risk to support the castle.
The community still needs to raise an additional $50,000 by the end of the year to keep the castle open. You can make a donation by calling the castle at 269-344-1827.

Henderson Castle Proprietors
The Henderson Castle proprietors, Peter and Laura Livingstone-McNelis, are halfway to reaching their fundraising goal of $100,000 to keep the bed and breakfast and community center open.
They've raised $50,000 so far, which is a significant amount considering it's just two weeks after the Kalamazoo Gazette ran a story about the castle potentially closing.
The $50,000 was made up of two "very significant" donations and close to a dozen smaller gifts from individuals in the community.
The Livingstone-McNelises have been involved in operations at the castle for five years and have given at least $120,000 to the community through hosting fundraisers, participating in charity auctions and raffles, and giving away free or discounted rooms and tours.
The castle was listed among the Top 41 historic hotels in the nation in 2009, a testament to its importance and value to the community.
82-year-old Fay Smith donated one of the two sizable donations, but she chose not to reveal the amount.
The Livingstone-McNelises still need an additional $50,000 by the end of the year to remain open following Jan. 1.
Anyone interested in making a donation can call the castle at 269-344-1827.
Donations will be returned if the amount necessary to keep the castle open is not raised by the end of December.
