Walmart Acceptance of Capital One Credit Cards Explained

Walmart has a long-standing relationship with Capital One, allowing them to accept Capital One credit cards in their stores and online.

Capital One credit cards are widely accepted at Walmart, including the Walmart Credit Card and the Capital One Walmart Rewards Credit Card.

You can use your Capital One credit card to make purchases in-store, online, or through the Walmart app.

Walmart has ended its exclusive credit card partnership with Capital One, effective immediately.

The partnership, which began in 2019, allowed Capital One to be the sole issuer of Walmart's consumer credit cards. The rewards card, known as the Capital One Walmart Rewards card, will continue to accrue rewards unless customers are notified of a change.

Card-holders can still use their Capital One Walmart Rewards cards, and Capital One will retain ownership and servicing of the credit card accounts. This means that customers can continue to make payments and use their cards as usual.

A federal judge ruled in Walmart's favor in March, allowing the company to terminate the agreement with Capital One. The lawsuit was filed in 2023, citing issues with payment processing and service standards.

There are approximately $8.5 billion in loans in the existing Walmart credit card portfolio.
