Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) is a popular health insurance provider in the United States, with a vast network of members and providers. BCBS allows credit card payments for its members, but there are some limitations to consider.

Some BCBS plans may charge a convenience fee for credit card payments, which can range from 2% to 3% of the payment amount. This fee is typically waived for electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments.

Payment Methods

Blue Cross Blue Shield accepts credit card payments in some situations, but not others. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois will no longer accept credit cards as a form of payment for members who buy their own health insurance on or off the Illinois marketplace starting June 1.

You can still use debit cards for payment. In fact, Blue Cross will still accept other forms of payment, including debit cards. Blue Cross and other health carriers are trying to drive down their costs, which is why they're making this change.

If you're a customer of Land of Lincoln Health, Aetna, or Coventry, you'll be able to continue paying with plastic. These companies plan to keep accepting credit cards as payment for monthly premiums.

You can also pay by phone, but there's a catch. If you call 1-800-355-BLUE (2583) to make a payment, you'll be charged an additional $25 fee. This is only for members who purchased coverage directly through Horizon.

On the other hand, you can pay by phone using your checking account, debit card, or credit card by calling 1-888-778-2005 and selecting the Billing Status option.

Blue Cross Policy

Blue Cross Policy is a bit more complicated than you'd think. Some Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) plans allow credit card payments, while others don't.

BCBS has a network of over 90 million members across the US, and each plan has its own payment policies. Some plans, like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, allow credit card payments online or over the phone.

However, other plans, like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, may not accept credit card payments and instead require electronic checks or bank drafts. It's essential to check your plan's specific payment policy to avoid any issues.
