Alipay HK is a digital wallet that allows users to make payments and transfers in Hong Kong dollars. It's a popular choice for tourists and locals alike.
In Hong Kong, Alipay HK is widely accepted at many merchants, including restaurants, cafes, and shops. You can use it to pay for everyday items, from groceries to clothing.
However, there's a catch - Alipay HK can't be used to pay for things in China. This is because Alipay HK is a Hong Kong-specific service, and it's not linked to the Chinese mainland's Alipay system.
AlipayHK vs Alipay China
AlipayHK and Alipay China have distinct differences. The main difference between the two platforms is the currency used, with Alipay China operating in Chinese Yuan (CNY) and AlipayHK running in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD).
AlipayHK offers the advantage of making remittances, a feature not available on Alipay China. At the time of this research, the remittance features are only available in mainland China, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
One key distinction between the two services is the availability of the two services. AlipayHK is only available for domestic transfers and remittances within Hong Kong, while Alipay China can be used for both domestic and international transfers.
AlipayHK only allows users to send money in Hong Kong dollars, whereas Alipay China accepts transactions in several different currencies, providing more flexibility to those who need to transfer funds internationally.
For domestic transfers, Hong Kong Alipay is more cost-effective than Mainland Alipay, but for international transfers, Mainland Alipay may be the better option for customers looking for low-cost remittance solutions.
Using Alipay in Hong Kong
You can use Alipay in Hong Kong, but it's a bit different from using it in mainland China. AlipayHK is the version used in Hong Kong, and it operates in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD), not Chinese Yuan (CNY) like the mainland version.
AlipayHK offers many features, including shopping, bill payments, investments, and more, but only AlipayHK has the advantage of making remittances, which allows you to send money to mainland China.
To use AlipayHK for bus and metro tickets in Hong Kong, simply select 'Hong Kong' next to the travel option in your AlipayHK account, fill in the personal information, and you can generate Hong Kong subway and bus codes.
The remittance feature of AlipayHK allows you to send money to mainland China via the Mainland Alipay account balance or linked bank account. If you want to remit to the mainland but don't want to link your bank account, you can transfer money directly to Alipay by following the steps outlined in the AlipayHK Remittance section.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Make sure your AlipayHK ID account is verified
- Choose 'Remittance' in the application centre in the middle of the homepage
- Check your available balance and use it as a funding channel to remit
- Select the destination as China, the recipient's payment method as Alipay, and enter the amount and provide the beneficiary information
- Confirm the transaction to complete
Alipay Differences
Alipay and AlipayHK operate in different currencies, with Alipay using Chinese Yuan (CNY) and AlipayHK using Hong Kong Dollars (HKD).
The features offered by each platform also differ slightly. AlipayHK has the advantage of making remittances, which is not available on the mainland China version of Alipay.
