You can tap to pay with your iPad, but only if it's a supported model and you have the right accessories.

The iPad must be running iOS 13.4 or later to support tap to pay functionality.

You'll also need an Apple Pay-compatible card, such as a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.

Some iPad models, like the iPad Pro and iPad Air, have a built-in Secure Element chip that enables tap to pay.

Set Up Guide

To set up Apple Pay on your iPad, start by tapping the blue "Add Card" option. This will prompt you to set up Touch ID if you haven't already.

You'll be redirected to the Touch ID & Passcode section, where you should switch on the "Apple Pay" toggle. Tap or swipe to switch the toggle from gray to green.

Next, follow the directions to set up your Touch ID by placing your finger on the home button and setting a passcode. This is a one-time setup process.

Once Touch ID is set up, jump back to the "Wallet & Apple Pay" section where you can add a card under "Payment Cards". You can select your card type and position your card in the frame or enter your information manually.

Read and agree to the terms and conditions, and complete the set-up instructions. You'll receive a notification stating your newly added card is ready for Apple Pay.

You can add up to eight cards to your wallet, and if you tap on a card, you can view both its banking information and a list of your latest Apple Pay transactions.

Using Tap to Pay

You can make purchases using Apple Pay in apps, in App Clips, and on the web using Safari wherever you see the Apple Pay button.

To pay for an item online with your iPad, tap the Apple Pay button during checkout, review the payment information, and you're ready to make the payment.

If you want to pay for an item at a physical retailer using your iPad, place your iPad near the terminal or payment reader and Apple Pay should appear with your default card visible.

To switch to a different card, swipe up on your list of cards and tap the one you want to use.

You can also use Apple Pay to make in-app purchases, just like on your iPhone, by finding the Apple Pay option in participating apps.

Here are the general steps to use Tap to Pay on your iPad:

  1. Place your iPad near the terminal or payment reader.
  2. Switch to a different card by swiping up on your list of cards and tapping the one you want to use.
