Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) is a state-owned bank in Indonesia that was established in 1895. It has a long history of providing banking services to the public.
With a focus on serving the needs of low-income individuals and families, BTN has become a trusted name in the country. Its mission is to provide financial services that promote economic growth and social welfare.
BTN has a strong presence in Indonesia, with over 1,000 branches across the country. This widespread network allows it to reach a large number of customers and provide them with convenient access to banking services.
History
Bank Tabungan Negara has a rich history that spans over a century. It was founded on October 16, 1897, as Postspaarbank, with its first office located in a building with Dutch architecture in Molenvliet West 1 (now Jalan Gajah Mada No.1).
The bank's early success was marked by the opening of four new branches in Makassar, Surabaya, Jakarta, and Medan between 1928 and 1934. This expansion was facilitated by the growing interest of the public in banking services.
In 1930, the bank began using electronic accounting machines, marking the start of its transformation. However, the bank's operations were suspended during the Japanese occupation, and it was renamed Kantor Tabungan Tjokin Kjokoe in 1942.
The bank's name was changed again to Kantor Tabungan Pos in 1945, after Indonesia gained independence. However, the bank's operations were disrupted by the Dutch aggression, and it was forced to close in 1946.
The bank reopened in 1949 and was renamed Bank Tabungan Negara in 1963. This change marked a significant shift in the bank's operations and identity. The bank has since undergone several transformations, including a change in its logo in 1980, which was designed by Rudi Sri Handoko from Sidoarjo, Jawa Timur.
Today, Bank Tabungan Negara is a prominent player in the Indonesian banking industry, with a long history of providing financial services to the public.

Sejarah (Sebelum 1950)
BTN was founded on October 16, 1897, as Postspaarbank, with its office located in a Dutch-style building at Molenvliet West 1 (now Jalan Gajah Mada No.1).
The bank's expansion began in 1928, with the opening of 4 new branches in Makassar, Surabaya, Jakarta, and Medan. This growth continued until 1934.
In 1930, Postspaarbank started using electronic accounting machines, marking the beginning of its transformation.
Pembekuan operasi perbankan di wilayah Hindia Belanda terjadi pada 4 Maret 1942, dengan manajemen bank di Bandung dipanggil oleh penguasa baru.
The Japanese military officially liquidated Postspaarbank on April 1, 1942, renaming it Kantor Tabungan Tjokin Kjokoe (Biro Deposito).
Tyokin Kyoku, the new name of Postspaarbank, failed to succeed due to Indonesia's severe economic condition, leading to its operational halt in August 1945.
After Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945, the name Tyokin Kyoku was changed to Kantor Tabungan Pos, with Darmosoetanto as its first director.
Kantor Tabungan Pos played a significant role in facilitating the exchange of Japanese currency for Oeang Republik Indonesia (ORI) during the early days of independence.
However, the bank's operations were severely disrupted by the Dutch aggression in 1946, with the Dutch occupying the bank's headquarters and branches across Indonesia.
The Dutch re-established Postspaarbank in Indonesia on May 1, 1946, effectively shutting down Kantor Tabungan Pos.
It wasn't until 1949 that Kantor Tabungan Pos resumed operations after being renamed Bank Tabungan Pos Republik Indonesia, and later Bank Tabungan Pos in 1950, following the implementation of Undang-Undang Darurat No.9/1950.

Jejak Langkah
Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) has a rich history that dates back to 1949 when Indonesia gained independence. The bank's operations began in 1950 after the name change from Postspaarbank to Bank Tabungan Pos.
In 1953, Bank Tabungan Pos was established as a badan hukum under the Ministry of Transportation and was allowed to open branch offices. A decade later, in 1963, the bank changed its name to Bank Tabungan Negara, marking a significant shift in its operations.
The bank's operations were later integrated into Bank Sentral in 1965, but it was re-established in 1968 through a law that allowed it to reopen as a separate entity. This marked the beginning of a new era for the bank, which has since become a prominent player in the Indonesian banking industry.
In 1971, BTN began collaborating with Perum Pos and Giro to implement the Tabungan Pembangunan Nasional (Tabanas) and Tabungan Asuransi Berjangka (Taska) programs. This partnership marked a significant milestone in the bank's history, paving the way for its future growth and development.

The bank's role in the housing sector also began to take shape in the 1970s. In 1974, the Minister of Finance appointed BTN as the primary provider of housing loans, or Kredit Pemilikan Rumah (KPR), to support the government's housing development initiatives. This move aimed to encourage Indonesians to save and invest in housing through the bank.
1980-An–1992
In the 1980s, Bank Tabungan Pos underwent a significant transformation by changing its name to Bank Tabungan Negara.
This name change marked the beginning of a new era for the bank, and a logo that was first introduced in 1970 made its appearance. However, this logo didn't last long, and a new one was introduced in 1980.
The new logo was a result of a design competition won by Rudi Sri Handoko from Sidoarjo, Jawa Timur. This logo was not the only change, as the bank's logo underwent three significant transformations in the following years, each reflecting the changing times and the era of new banking.
As the years went by, the logo continued to evolve, adapting to the changing landscape of the banking industry.
