To protect yourself from manipulation, it's essential to be aware of your surroundings when using a bank machine.

You should also inspect the machine before using it to ensure it's in good condition.

Be cautious of any hidden cameras, often placed above the keypad, which can be used to steal your PIN code.

To keep your PIN code safe, cover the keypad with your other hand while entering the code.

Consider using the same bank machine every time you withdraw cash to easily identify any suspicious activity.

The affected customers are promptly informed by letter, keeping them in the loop about what's happening. This transparency is essential in rebuilding trust.

A replacement card and new PIN code are ordered, and the customer can expect to receive them in the mail within about a week. This process ensures that the customer's account is secure and functional again.

SGKB und Bargeld

Starting April 2024, SGKB customers will be charged a fee of 2 francs for withdrawing cash at a bancomat that is not affiliated with one of the 24 cantonal banks.

SGKB customers can currently withdraw cash at any bancomat in Switzerland for free, regardless of whether it's a SGKB bancomat or one from another cantonal bank or a non-member institution.

The SGKB has a new rule that charges two francs for cash withdrawals at non-Kantonal banks, starting in April. This means you'll pay two francs for cash withdrawals at UBS Bancomat, for example.

The SGKB website explains this new rule in the "Dienstleistungen und Preise für Bankgeschäfte" section on page 8. Adrian Kunz, an SGKB spokesperson, says they want to show customers the effective costs of cash withdrawals at non-Kantonal banks.

Kantonal banks like the Bündner KB offer free cash withdrawals at their Bancomat. This is a good option if you're on vacation in Graubünden, for instance.

The Thurgauer Kantonalbank (TKB) already offers free cash withdrawals at their Bancomat and other Kantonal banks, but charges two francs at other banks. If you have one of their service packages, though, you can make up to three free cash withdrawals per quarter at non-Kantonal banks.

The Appenzeller Kantonalbank and Regionalbank Acrevis offer free cash withdrawals at all Bancomat.
