Bahts are the official currency of Thailand, and they're divided into 100 satangs. They're issued by the Bank of Thailand and come in various denominations, including coins and banknotes.

The baht is pegged to the US dollar, which means its value is tied to the value of the dollar. This helps maintain stability in the currency and economy.

Bahts are widely accepted in Thailand, and you can exchange them for other currencies at banks, currency exchange offices, or use ATMs to withdraw cash.

In Thailand, bahts are used for everyday transactions, from buying street food to paying for hotel rooms.

History of Baht

The character 圓; yuán was used to represent baht during the times of Rama IV.

This character was phased out by another character, which is still partially and informally used today.

The character 銖; zhū was officially used on banknotes from 1868-1925 to represent baht, and is still used unofficially today to refer to the Thai baht in general.

The notation for these Chinese characters was written in Thai, but from right to left, as was the convention back then.

One baht was written as 圓壹 or 銖壹, and if there were smaller units involved, the notation could be written like 方銭參圓壹 for one baht, three salueng, and one fueang.

The character 銖; zhū is still used today unofficially to refer to the Thai baht, as in 泰銖 or 泰铢.
