The initiative will use interactive video technology to connect patients with specialists remotely.

Patients will visit a local Adventist Health location for the appointment, where a clinical coordinator will assist and use diagnostic equipment to send accurate data and images to the specialist.

The visits will be confidential and all information will be encrypted and sent through a secure connection.

Blue Shield is proud to launch this initiative to increase access to specialty care for its exchange members in rural parts of northern California.

The telehealth initiative will initially be available at Adventist Health sites in Paradise, Clearlake, Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg, St. Helena, Napa, and Sonora.

Blue Shield and Adventist Health plan to expand the initiative to more locations and make it available to more Blue Shield members later in 2014.
